Dear Class,

For our first class, we will read Rilke’s ten “Letters to a Young Poet.” As you read along, please make notes on what it is that Rilke’s believes fuels the beating heart of the artistic life. Notice which themes come up or repeat: these will form the foundation of what we will read in the weeks to come. Review the syllabus if you want to look ahead at coming assignments, and the workshop plan is detailed at the bottom as well. Please let us know if you have any questions at all.
